Bar cabinet by Ulla Fogelklou-Skogh, Bodafors, Sweden, 1940s
A very rare bar cabinet designed by Ulla Fogelklou-Skogh and produced by Bodafors in Sweden during the 1940s. Executed in mahogany with details in brass and glass, the cabinet is a distinctive example of Swedish craftsmanship, combining sculptural decoration with refined joinery.
The front is richly carved with figural and architectural motifs depicting Scandinavian scenes with mythological and historical references. Along the lower edge runs a carved runic inscription reading “Got okk glat skall manskan vara”, translated as “Good and happy man will be”, adding a poetic and distinctly Nordic character.
The interior reveals a contrasting functional clarity, featuring a mirrored back, fitted drawers in dark-stained wood with brass pulls, and integrated interior lighting, creating an elegant balance between ornament and practicality.
